3 Tips For Planning Food For A Surprise Party

2 min read

Pulling off a surprise party is one of the most exciting things. Especially if you’re able to get the party all ready without your guest of honor having a clue as to what’s going on, their surprise and excitement can be contagious throughout the entire duration of the party. But in all of your planning, make sure you don’t neglect the food that you’ll be having.

To help make sure that you get this part of your party planning right, here are three tips for planning food for a surprise party.

Try To Keep Things Simple

Because there are often so many moving parts when it comes to planning a surprise party, anywhere that you can make things easier on yourself should be utilized, and the food you provide can be one of these areas.

There are so many delicious foods and treats that you can make or have catered that take very little prep time and that people will easily be able to eat while milling about and chatting. So rather than doing a big meal that requires careful planning and timing, consider how you can make food that can be relatively easy to whip up and will stay perfectly edible for a while in the event that your guest of honor takes their sweet time getting to the party.

Think Family Style

Something else you might want to consider as you prepare the food for a surprise party is what the overall atmosphere of the party is going to be.

With many surprise parties, the atmosphere is pretty light. Because of this, you may not want to plan any food that’s too particularly formal. With this in mind, consider planning food that leans more toward a family-style presentation rather than individual plates for each person. By doing this, you’ll make it easier for people to just grab what they want while they mingle with everyone else celebrating your guest of honor.

Choose Your Menu With The Guest Of Honor In Mind

If you’re planning a surprise party for someone, it’s probably fair to say that you know this person pretty well. So while it’s good to have foods that you think everyone will enjoy, you should also choose your menu with your guest of honor in mind. For example, if you’re throwing a surprise party for a loved one living in assisted living, make sure you choose foods that will be easy for them to eat and that bring back memories that will make them happy. You may also want to do something like a signature cocktail based entirely off of your guest of honor and what they like.

If you’re wondering how you should go about planning the food for the surprise party, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you make the best choices.
